Speaking to Bankrate, US interior designer Gail Doby noted that it can be beneficial to find inspiration before committing to a partnership.

"If you see something in a magazine or an article online, those are great places to start," she said, adding that taking a look around the properties of friends or neighbours can also spark some creative thought.

New York home architect Judy Sheridan observed how the internet presence of some specialists can aid in the quest to find the right person for the job. 

She explained that photos on their websites can give potential clients an impression about a designer's style.

In the UK, director of Shorplans Architectural Services Carl Shorter previously remarked that Brits are more in control of what they want their house to look like because they have more influences. 

"They're watching these programmes like 60 Minute Makeover," he asserted.
