Sales of seats for the toilets of the overweight ‘soar’

Accessories for overweight peoples’ bathrooms have skyrocketed, with ideal toilet seats being snapped up by obese consumers.

One best seller is the Big John toilet seat, which is five inches wider than the everyday version and can support somebody who weighs 60 stone.

The jumbo loo seat can fit onto an ordinary toilet bowl and has been available in the US for several years now, being introduced to the UK more recently.

Retailing at £200, the Big John might seem like a hefty investment to make to more comfortably accommodate a larger posterior.

But it is unlikely the popularity of the larger loo lid will abate any time soon, as it is now believed that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of the British public is now obese.

And consumers who spend more on their toilets could make compensatory savings on their water bill by installing a flush-regulating device such as a Hippo.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Lord Krebs has recommended people invest in such efficiency features to help them save money and the environment.
