‘Use drywall’ in a bathroom suite renovation

When ripping out your bathroom and starting again from scratch, or if planning on creating an ensuite bathroom suite in a large bedroom, drywall has been recommended as a better alternative to plaster.

Crispin Dunn-Meynell, general secretary of the Gypsum Products Development Association, said that high quality versions of the material are preferable to plaster because they take less time to dry and set and are not as labour-intensive to use.

In addition to it being easier to work with, the expert claimed it is also naturally fire retardant, making a home a little bit safer without having to use other fire protection measures.

Mr Dunn Meynell said: “Drywall only requires hand finishing at the fasteners and joints. Ease of installation is also one of the principal benefits of using branded systems from leading manufacturers.”

And for finishing touches when the drywall is ready, householders could follow the advice of Summer Thornton, owner of Summer Thornton Design in Chicago, who told Lake News Online that natural materials like grasscloth are in fashion at the moment.
