Will thefts from hotel towel rails be curbed by electronic tags?
Stealing from a hotel’s heated towel rails is something many of us have done. Some by accident, others on purpose. But all that could be put to an end thanks to electronic tagging.
According to the Daily Mail, one company has launched a towel that features a label with a device that can be detected if the item leaves the premises.
William Serbin of Linen Tracking Technology estimates that as much as 20 per cent of a hotel’s stock will go missing and so the organisation has used radio-frequency identification technology to tag towels, bathrobes and sheets just in case.
But it is not merely for the purposes of theft prevention that this innovation can be used. The label also identifies when, for example, all the towels have been removed from a cupboard so they can be replaced by a maid.
Visitors to the Juliet Supperclub nightclub this week may have been tempted to steal accessories from the bathroom to take home a souvenir, as we’ve heard that Mariah Carey had the bathroom suite emptied so she could have a moment of quiet in there, while on a night out with her friends.
