Choosing the right waste is no waste of time

For every item which uses water in your bathroom, wastes will be required - obvious you may think, but wastes are often one item that are forgotten about.

When purchasing taps for your bathroom, unless the tap is a mono tap, wastes are not included so it is down to you, the customer, to ensure you purchase the correct waste. There are 3 main types of basin wastes. The first is a simple plug and chain wastes, which attach below the overflow and into the waste hole in the basin. The second type is pop up basin wastes, which are commonly shipped with any mono tap. Pop up wastes are usually part of the tap, with a small lever to push the wastes up out of the waste hole. The other type of basin wastes are the more modern, push button wastes. These types of wastes are spring loaded and are operated by simply pushing the wastes down into the plug hole and then depressing them to release.

Wastes for the bath are a little more complicated and there several types of bath wastes available. As with basin wastes, there are standard plug and chain wastes and pop up wastes available. However, for roll top baths, complete waste kits are available which include extra pipework to attach the overflow to the waste hole. If you are unsure as to what wastes you require, consult one of our sales team and they will be able to advise you on which wastes are suitable.

The two other types of wastes are for showers and bidets. Easy clean shower wastes are the most popular form of wastes for the shower, as they can be easily removed and cleaned. Shower wastes fit into shower trays and almost all trays do not come with wastes already installed. If you have the luxury of a bidet in your property, then this too will require a waste. As with basin mono taps, bidet mono taps generally come with pop up wastes, but if they are not included, push button wastes are a good alternative.
