Once you’ve picked out the shower enclosure and tray that are right for you, or chosen your ideal shower bath, it’s time to think about your shower system.
Remember that when choosing a shower, you are likely to need to know the pressure of your home water supply system. This is because some showers (especially those with larger or multiple shower heads or body jets) may require more pressure than you have. Often, this is an issue that can be tackled by adding a pump to your system: this can boost the water pressure to your whole bathroom or just to your shower, depending on the pump you choose.
Mixer showers may have exposed or concealed pipework; it is entirely up to you which style you prefer. You’ll need a shower rail kit, supporting either a fixed shower head, a gliding shower head, or both, shower valve (control), and shower head. You may prefer to buy these separately for maximum flexibility or choose a package for greater convenience.
Alternatively, you may prefer the convenience of an electric shower. This heats the water as and when you turn on the shower and provides a stream of hot water at the touch of a button, requiring only a cold water supply. While the flow may be less powerful than some mixer showers, many people consider an electric shower an essential in case of a boiler breakdown.
