A government adviser has recommended the widespread use of water-saving devices in toilets to help fight climate change.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Lord Krebs has called for water meters to be installed in all UK homes over the coming decade, to encourage householders to be wiser with their water usage, and for access to efficiency tools for cisterns to be more widely available.
Such devices sometimes referred to as hippos reduce the amount of liquid used when the flush mechanism is triggered.
Lord Krebs also recommended people look into fixing dripping taps, buy efficient shower heads, attach aerator nozzles to taps and invest in water butts for the back garden.
Although we are coping now we are fairly near the limits so we should not be seduced into thinking everything is fine and dandy,Ø he said.
And environmentally-conscious householders may also be interested in investing in low-energy LED light bulbs for the bathroom, as director of Save & Generate Roger Hollies claimed these lumens are the next big thing in domestic lighting.
