A green refurbishment project resulting in 20 homes in Redbridge being given an energy-efficient facelift has introduced water-saving devices to their bathrooms.

The Greener Homes for Redbridge scheme won the Retrofit of the Year award at the Construction News Awards 2011 ceremony, after it achieved carbon reductions of 82 per cent in ten of the properties.

Among the energy-efficient bathroom suite features, project managers at East Thames Group saw water-saving toilets and taps installed, as well as solar hot water systems and energy-efficient LED bathroom lighting.

East Thames Group assistant director Kevin OReilly said: Were thrilled to have won this award with the help of all our partners and we hope that this recognition encourages the sector to continue its commitment to making older homes more sustainable.Ø

Roger Hollies, director of Save & Generate said last week that LED bulbs would be the next big thing for green-conscious consumers, describing them as the silver bulletØ of the lighting world.
